Christmas in Sydney
David Jones Department Store in the city always has a large window display for Christmas.
All the puppets move along with the carols being piped through each window.
They usually mix the traditional with the new.
Hence the Christmas Bordie Collie rounding up the sheep below!
The Queen Victoria Building always has an enormous tree to celebrate the season.
It's impossible to see it all from any one vantage point.
And in the streets...charity reindeer antlers!
Finally, it wouldn't be Christmas in Australia without a Christmas Bush
(Ceratopetalum gummiferum)
The small, white flowers appear during October.
As these die, the sepals enlarge, becoming pink, then red...just in time for Christmas!
Merry Christmas to Alyce and all my fellow Saturday snapshotters.
I look forward to the New Year pics.

I love the window displays and the charity reindeer!!! What a beautiful flower, much like the Poinsetta here in the US.
ReplyDeleteThose windows are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThe window displays are lovely.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shots! At first glance I thought the guy selling the antlers was wearing a weird skirt. :-)
ReplyDeleteHappy holidays!
Love the display of the 5 and 10 cent store!
ReplyDeleteWonderful and creative! The first one with the 5 and 10 cent display took me back to a time when there were stores like that. The huge Christmas tree display is breathtaking. Thanks for sharing, and for visiting my blog.
ReplyDeleteWhat lovely window displays. I love the Christmas collie!
ReplyDeletethat tree is gorgeous, and the window displays are very cute. Thanks for sharing! Book Savvy Babe
ReplyDeleteSo neat to see how Christmas is celebrated in your neck of that tree is impressive!
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen the David Jones windows for years! I do love the QVB tree, though we didn't get to see it this year. My Mum wouldn't have a Christmas without Christmas Bush.
ReplyDeleteI love the tree at the Queen Victoria building. It is beautiful. Is Christmas Bush similar to what I know as Christmas Cactus? I'm going to research that.
ReplyDeleteI believe the Christmas Cactus is called zygocactus (in Australia they flower around Easter time!) and the NSW Christmas Bush is actually a small shrub.
