Autumn Saturday Snapshot April 27

Sydney doesn't really do autumn.

Instead we enjoy a long lazy hazy couple of months with midday temps that hover around 26°C and night time lows of 16°.

We flirt with autumn a little, we hint at it, a suggestion is made, but then, suddenly one day the lovely warm days are over and that's that.

I've lived most of my life in western NSW. The extreme heat of summer and cold of winter is rewarded by amazing spring and autumnal displays.

I do miss the display of red, yellow, purple and orange that heralds a country autumn.

But I do not miss the cold and frosty walks to work in the morning that make this possible. And I do not miss coming home to a cold, dark house that only just warms as you go to bed with your electric blanket and bed socks!

Below I've included a few pics I took on my walks around Sydney this week - the lovely flowers still blooming with such glorious days and sunsets (and one gratuitous shot of Sydney Harbour!)

Autumn also means the beginning of the soccer season for us. At this time of the year, there is nothing nicer than standing on the sideline cheering on the boys.

Saturday Snapshot is a meme hosted by Alyce from At Home With Books.

The rules are simple:

To participate in the Saturday Snapshot meme post a photo that you (or a friend or family member) have taken and leave a direct link to your post in the Mister Linky. Photos can be old or new, and be of any subject as long as they are clean and appropriate for all eyes to see. How much detail you give in the caption is entirely up to you. Please don’t post random photos that you find online.

  1. Wonderful shots. I especially like the flower with the bee. I tried to catch a large bee flying last weekend but couldn't get him in the shot.
I like the crispness of your shots. Mine are so fuzzy today going through a window screen. :-(

  2. Your flower shots are lovely, but my favourite is the bridge and boats. There is something magical about the quality of light on the boats, and the menacing dark cloud in the background.

    1. The storm never materialised, but the clouds made for an amazing sunset that evening as I was going home on the ferry.

  4. Sydney is one of my favourite places in the world so gratuitous harbour shots are always welcome. She doesn't do autumn though. We do autumn up in the Tablelands of course- but I managed to escape the cold this week, and just spent a lovely, and warm, week up in Newcastle- enjoying your glorious autumn days.

    1. :-) Those 'tugboats' are the iconic Sydney ferries. I caught one of those home a few minutes after taking the photo!

    1. Yes, both my step-sons play elite soccer. Our lives are spent ferrying them around between training sessions and games - I think I know every single football field intimately in the greater Sydney region!!

  10. I love the boats and bridge photo - stunning! I know I'm being silly, but I've always imagined Australia as somewhere that is perpetually warm. It's hard for me to think of it having winter and frosts. :)
