Mirador de La Loma del Puerto, Cuba

On the road between Sancti Spiritus and Trinidad is a fabulous lookout over the Valle de los Ingenios (Valley of the Sugar Mills).
It's a 192m above sea level and includes a sweeping panorama of the whole valley.

There's a cafe/bar at the top but you don't need to eat or drink there to enjoy the view (but you do have to pay the parking attendant to 'look after' your car).

You can also partake of a zip line experience across one of the closer and smaller valleys - the latest craze that Cubans seemed to have embraced wholeheartedly!

On the other side of the mirador was the car park and this rather bizarre desert like area.
There was no explanation for this unusual environment and no one (friendly) to ask (the car park attendant didn't invite conversation!)

It was one of the many things that puzzled me in Cuba.

    1. The weather worked well for us the whole time.
After being knocked about by the heat and humidity on our arrival in Santiago de Cuba, a lovely cool change blew in for a few days. As it gradually got hotter and more humid again, we had time to acclimatise.

  4. Gorgeous! What a beautiful area - so different from the many photos I have seen of Cuba's city & town streets. What a lovely valley - I would love to zipline across it!

So great that you had this amazing opportunity!

    1. Thanks Sue, although we weren't so sure about the zipline.

OH&S concerns weren't very stringent in Cuba - good old common sense was applied to any risk taking venture....and the sturdiness of this particular structure wasn't something I was prepared to trust!

  5. One rarely sees foto's of interior Cuba.....it's mostly all about
vintage cars and colorful houses in Havana!
    What a trip that was!

    1. That's what made Cuba such an amazing experience - it was old cars and architecture, but it was also lovely beaches and gorgeous valleys.
