Saturday Snapshot 10th November

This week we celebrated our wedding anniversary.
At the time we didn't plan it to be the week that the Jacaranda trees were in full bloom
- it's simply a happy coincidence!

They are one of my favourite trees.
Our suburb is full of them.
Everywhere I walk a purple tree announces itself with a blast of colour reaching up to the sky and a carpet of fallen purple to crush beneath my feet.

We have one in the lane behind us. I walk under it several times a day.
It is a joy to behold!

Last year was one of the wettest springs we'd had for quite some time.
But even with grey skies, the Jacaranda looked stunning.

But on a bright, sunny day - they're truly magnificent!

Saturday Snapshot is a meme hosted by Alyce at At Home With Books.

The rules are simple:

To participate in the Saturday Snapshot meme post a photo that you (or a friend or family member) have taken then leave a direct link to your post in the Mister Linky. Photos can be old or new, and be of any subject as long as they are clean and appropriate for all eyes to see. How much detail you give in the caption is entirely up to you. Please don’t post random photos that you find online

  3. I think there may be some jacaranda trees in Florida, but I've never seen them in bloom. They're lovely. Here's Mine

    1. Jacaranda mimosifolia are a native of South America, but do very well in the warm coastal areas of Australia. I would imagine that Florida would be the ideal climate for them to flourish in. Plan a trip for late spring to see them in their glory.

  4. Oh wow, that's a lovely tree! I'd always heard about Jacaranda but had never really known what they looked like. Wonderful picture.

  5. I love jacaranda blue. I went to Sydney Uni and the big jacaranda in the main quad flowers when the exam schedule goes up. All rather cruel. It took me about 10 years not to feel somewhat anxious when I saw one in flower. It's always lovely driving into Sydney (especially the north shore) and see a see of blue trues.

  6. How beautiful! I planted a jacaranda but I think the soil is too hard and rocky so it hasn't grown well.

    1. Warm, temperate zones suit them best. Jacaranda's have been known to survive a light frost, but they don't really like being cold (just like me!!)

  13. I first saw Jacaranda trees while visiting our son and his family in Arizona. Purple has always been one of my favorite colors and a whole tree is breathtaking. Jacarandas do not grow in Wyoming, so thanks for the pictures. They helped cheer me up, we have snow and ice today! :(
Here is my Snapshot Saturday post for today

  15. Just beautiful! That shade of lavender purple is so pretty ... is there a scent to the flowers? I hope you had a wonderful anniversary celebration! May you and your husband have many more years together!

    1. Also unbeknownst to us when we planned our wedding, this time of the year is right in the middle of the soccer trial season! My husband spent every afternoon this week ferrying the boys to various trials while I had the pleasure of juggling staggered dinner times and a laundry full of soccer gear!!
The good news is that the youngest has been accepted (and signed up) into the under 13's squad at Sydeny Uni and the eldest will probably get the nod for the under 16's at Mundial....and so starts another season :-)
