Saturday Snapshot 28th October

Sculptures by the Sea is an annual event in Sydney.
It lasts for 3 weeks every October/November.
The sculptures are displayed on the beach and cliff edges from Bondi Beach to Tamarama.

We go most years but have learnt to go late in the afternoon or during the week to avoid the crowds. It's a lovely way to spend a few hours.

Some of the sculptures utilise the local environment.

Others interact with the local environment.

And some just take your breath away with their simple beauty and elegance!

Some of them highlight the natural beauty of their surroundings.

And others just cause you to scratch your head in wonder!

Some state the obvious!

Some make you pause.
Most of the sculptures ask you not to touch or climb on them.
But they are very happy for you to interact with them!
Some of the sculptures require your participation.
Some ask you to look up.
And some you really, really want to touch even though you know you shouldn't!

Some of the sculptures make you smile.

 And some make you remember.

Some are worth a second look in different light.

And sometimes Mother Nature steals the show!!

Saturday Snapshot is a meme hosted by Alyce at At Home With Books.

The rules are simple:

To participate in the Saturday Snapshot meme post a photo that you (or a friend or family member) have taken then leave a direct link to your post in the Mister Linky. Photos can be old or new, and be of any subject as long as they are clean and appropriate for all eyes to see. How much detail you give in the caption is entirely up to you. Please don’t post random photos that you find online.

  1. What a lovely tour Brona. I don't know that I've ever been. I've done the walk of course. I hadn't seen this years sculptures yet. I especially liked the picture frame last year. I really like the fishing rods, that's quite beautiful. Your second last picture is my favaourite shot.

    1. The picture frame was one of my favourites last year - we got lots of family pics with it :-)
The fishing rods were my favourite sculpture this year, although the sunset at the end made all the shiny sculptures look particularly amazing.

  4. Great event. I love the interesting sculptures but you are right that Mother Nature (or God for me) can steal the show. Thanks for sharing the beauty.

  11. Thank you all.
One of the things I've noticed as we've all moved to digital photography and smart phones is that cultural events like this not only encourage, but inspire us to be artists as well.

The whole time we were there people were snapping pic of the scultpures from all sides, in all lights. I overheard so many conversations about composition, depth perception and angles. Creativity is within all our grasps :-)
