Saturday Snapshot #5

Saturday Snapshot is a meme hosted by Alyce at At Home With Books.

The rules are simple:

To participate in the Saturday Snapshot meme post a photo that you (or a friend or family member) have taken then leave a direct link to your post in the Mister Linky. Photos can be old or new, and be of any subject as long as they are clean and appropriate for all eyes to see. How much detail you give in the caption is entirely up to you. Please don’t post random photos that you find online.

Grevillea 'Coconut Ice"

Wisteria

Spring feels like a real possibility this week.
Flowers are suddenly blossoming all over the place.

My lovely grevillia has been flowering for over a month now
- it loves it's sunny spot in the back corner.

The wisteria is in my neighbours yard, but graces our common fence line.
I love how I've caught it very early with only 3 individual blossoms open at the top.

  1. Two of my favourite plants! I love wisteria so. I'd always planned to put some in when I bought a house, but haven't, perhaps I will this year. I can't believe it's out in Sydney already. It snowed at home last night! Thankfully I'm still in Melbourne and avoided it.

    1. Yes, we heard it snowed up and own the Great Dividing Range last night - we're getting the cold wind off it today! I may have been premature in planting out the basil seedlings last week :-(

  2. I'm glad you're thinking of spring, but I'm still sweating profusely on the first day of September, dreaming of some cooler days. That wisteria plant looks different than the wisteria I've seen in Europe. Usually it hangs down in big blossoms like a bunch of grapes. Do you think it's the same? Lovely pics. Here's Mine

  3. Wisteria always has a special place in my heart as my childhood home was covered in it. So lovely!

  5. Love your pictures. Seems odd to think of you talking about spring, while here n England it's September 1, autumn is upon us, ans we haven't really had a summer! My Snapshot is at http://goo.gl/UR1qO

  11. I love seeing the first flowers of spring! Right now I'm looking forward to the leaves changing and the temperatures cooling. Even though we didn't have a scorching hot summer I can't help but look forward to fall.

  12. Spring? sigh, I remember Spring. Oh, I guess that's really a winter comment, but it's so hot that even winter sounds good.

Beautiful flowers! I posted about what I did this summer

  13. That shot of the grevillia is amazing. I've never seen that flower before; it looks like something out of an illustrated book of fairy tales. It is funny to hear you talking about snow while here in California we are enjoying the last days of summer.

  14. These are beautiful. I always love seeing flowers...but especially this year. With the drought there have been few flowers around our house.

    Here's my Snapshot.

  15. I'd never seen a grevillia, and I don't have a wisteria. Both are beautiful flowers. We still have some beautiful flowers, yet others are starting to fade or die. Our blossoms are done on the cup plant.

  16. I've never seen Grevillea before, so I looked it up and found out that it was named after Charles Francis Greville, a British antiquarian, collector and politician who lived from May 12, 1749 – May 23, 1809. I'm a huge fan of trivia and love posts like this where I can learn new things!!

    Both flowers are very beautiful!

    1. I thought that those of you on the other side of the world would enjoy the grevillea!

They're Australian natives and part of the protea family. They come in so many different colours and sizes, but I have a soft spot for the pink/red/purple varieties.
